CAMBRIDGE – A huge discovery made by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, under the Cancer Genome Project. It disputed the textbook definition of cancer; a multi-stage cell development process, through a progression from a pre-cancerous lesion to malignant tumors.

Stephens and co-workers proved that cancer is the result of a single event called Chromothripsis, or “chromosome explosion”. Following this process, hundreds of genomic rearrangement occurs involving one or more chromosomes.

Chromosomes are shattered apart as it “explodes” into fragments of gene. Some are joined together by the DNA repair mechanism at random. This genetic “mix up” may lead to mutations in which, some, can trigger the development of cancer. In some cases, one or more cancer-causing lesions may appear.

Researchers also found that this catastrophe is present in 2-3% of cancer of many subtypes. It is more common to occur in bone cancers, in roughly, 25% of the cases.

Studies were made on the ‘stamp’ of Chromothripsis seen in cell samples which were collected from a 62-year-old patient with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. It was taken when the she was first diagnosed. Another sample was taken 31 months later, following her subsequent clinical course which showed rapid deterioration.

Analysis showed that all rearrangements present in the pre-treatment sample were also present in the later sample. There were no new genomic rearrangements, suggesting that the process causing these complex rearrangements had resolved before the patient was first diagnosed.

Hence, this supported Stephens and his colleagues’ finding that the process occurs in a one-off cellular crisis. It has important implications in understanding genomic reorganization and temporary emergence of cancer.

When asked whether this breakthrough may lead to a cure for cancer, Dr Neil Graham, a lecturer at The University of Nottingham, agreed that we may now be one step closer to find that cure!

Today was supposed to be the day we all go to London to play for the winter games. tapi nampak nya, due to an unforeseen circumstances, we weren't able to go there pasal keadaan cuaca tidak mengizinkan.

I woke up at exactly 536 am this morning. It was still dark and cold. The temperature outside is approximately - six degree celcius and i was shaking.

"gila, sajuk banar jua hari ani, cemana kan main bula ni karang,"

i thought to myself.

i forced myself to go and have a quick shower. I turned on the tap, and put the heat level at its maximum. oh yes, that feels good. now i feel fresh, as good as new.

My watch beep twice, its 6am. oh my god, im really late. i really thought that i should get going. So i locked my room, went outside and walked towards the bus stop where we're supposed to meet up. Now it is very cold. i can barely feel right thumb, and my other fingers were numb.

i paid my bus ticket to the person in charge and waited for 15 ice cold minutes before the bus arrives. i can't help but overheard the conversation between the bus driver and a Brunotts officer whose in charge of the trip.

"I'm afraid the M1 highway going to London is closed due to bad weather conditions. Many buses, trains and flights are affected. However, its your call. If you still wanna go there, i can do it but we are most likely going to be stranded on the highway until the rest of the day"

The bus driver explained, with a frown on his face.

A few minutes later, The Brunotts officer in charge gathered everyone around and talked us through the situation. by a unanimous decision, the trip was cancelled. so we all went back home where we all live happily ever after.

oleh kerana ada sedikit kelapangan hari ini, saya berkesempatan mencuba untuk membuat cheese sauce for cheesy wedges.

recipe nya adalah seperti berikut :-

Ingredients

For your cheese sauce you will need to have the following ingredients ready to use:

1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 tablespoon plain flour (sieved)
Half a pint of milk (semi-skimmed is fine)
4oz grated hard cheese (such as Cheddar or Double Gloucester). You can add extra cheese for a thicker or cheesier sauce.
Salt (to taste)
Fresh ground black pepper (optional)

Method

Here comes the tricky bit, as many chefs would have you believe.

First, gently melt the butter or margarine in a saucepan over a low heat. Exercise some patience, and keep the heat low, or the butter will burn, and will make your sauce taste nasty.
Next, add the sieved flour and mix to form a smooth paste.
Now very gradually add the milk a little at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition to keep the sauce smooth. Any lumps now, and you may as well give up! After initially becoming thick, the paste will become thin and smooth as you add more milk.
Add your salt and pepper as required, then slightly raise the heat (do not boil) and sprinkle in your grated cheese, stirring constantly.
Once the cheese has melted (raise the heat a little more if necessary), bring the sauce to the boil, stirring constantly. Allow the sauce a minute or so to thicken, then reduce the heat, and stir occasionally.

Your cheese sauce is now ready to serve or use in the dish of your choice, such as vegetable lasagne or macaroni cheese.

Berikut adalah hasil percubaan saya pada tengah hari ini.

nampaknya, sauce outcome nya lain sedikit. iatah ku hairan, i expected it to be more yellowish. but inda apa lah, first attempt. rasanya quite okay jua. mm...nyamann jua lah. hahaha. alright. gotta go. its time to eat. byebye

Tumpi adalah sejenis makanan tradisi negara kita, Brunei Darussalam. Tumpi ani tapung yang kena goreng. cara membuat nya sanang saja.

step 1 :
mula mula kita sedia kan tapung secukupnya, then bagi sedikit garam yang telah di dissolved ke dalam air. then uli tepung nya sambil menambah air sedikit sedikit. uli sampai permukaan tepung atu jadi smooth.

step ke 2 :
kita picak kan dough atu sampai flat, then deep-fry sehingga warna dough tadi bertukar jadi golden brown.

step 3 :
taruh arah pinggan, bagi susu manis. nyamaaaan booooiii!

siuk nyamu rasanya weekend ani, dapat bangun akhir, dapat tidur akhir, relax jua lah dari membuat keraja. hahaha. tapi next week tepaksa tah ku start meng-ungkayahkan ni essay ku ani. usulnya mun akhir ku start, inda siap karang. on Thursday lagi ni kana suruh bejumpa group tutor. hmm.. the other module, Economics Analysis pun kana bagi sudah essay assignment nya. . Atu lagi tia, yang anu.. yang pasal marketing apa, haiya. bukan inda susah nyamu economics atu.bukan nya macam masuk telinga kiri, keluar telinga kanan ani macam, masuk Telinga kiri, tapi te-block, tepaksa bepusing ke telinga kanan, sudah sampai di telinga kanan, kana reject pasal inda ada passport. hahaha. apakan tu. atu insyallah, next week ku start membungkar rahsia di sebalik Economics ani. insyallah by the end of this month siap lah kedua dua nya essay atu.

but its alright~ ani weekend, so inda payah pikir dulu pasal keraja and all that, we take a break, relax relax dulu ;D

it has been a few weeks now since laptop ku beusai di TTCO kiulap, iatah baru ku mengaga tadi pagi bersama my dad. kami bertolak dari rumah dalam pukul 11 pagi, pada mula nya saya berasa sangat letih setelah main cs bersama dua orang kawan saya Lim pat pat dan lim tepapat. Hahahaha.

setelah letih bemain CS saya berasa sangat lapar, jadi saya pun pigi ke dapur untuk menyedia kan beberapa jenis masakan yang boleh mengenyangkan perut saya yang lapar ini.

setelah tidak sampai 3 minit di dapur, saya telah berjaya menghasil kan satu masakan yang memang di gemari ramai iaitu : mee gulung! hehehehehe. tapi ani oleh kerana telampau capat ku memasak atu, inda sampat ku mengulung mee nya ah. and lupa ku memasak kuahnya xp

other than that, saatu lagi masakan yang telah ku masak ialah, double cheese pita burger. sedap yoo! meleleh cheese nya ah. kalah chicken corbleu (sp?) dari secret recipe tu. hahahaha.

saya sempat juga menikmati dessert.. hehehehe. iaitu spaghetti meat balls ice-cream. sedap sehingga menjilat pinggan. (Y)(Y)

setelah selesai makan, jam sudah menunjukkan pukul 330 pagi dan keesokan harinya saya akan berpuasa qadha untuk membayar puasa yang telah lepas. so, iatah sudah sahur ku tu.perut kenyang, saya pun tidur :D

cuaca hari ini sangat baik, dengan angin bertiup sekali sekala meniupkan angin segar pada hari ini. sedang ku duduk duduk menghirup udara segar sambil makan kitkat, teringat pula akan kepulangan yang di nanti nanti kan pada minggu hadapan. Pada minggu hadapan saya akan pulang untuk beraya di kampung halaman.

inda kerasahan masa atu berlalu. banar tah. prasan ku baru jua ku sampai sini kan settling down apa.. macam macam kenangan cali jua lah for my first year di Notts ani. ada ada saja kan berlaku. ketinggalan kunci tia, ketinggalan bas, bg miul sakit, hehehe. macam macam lah kenangan manis. senyum jua kalau teringat. hehehehe

di samping atu, banyak pengajaran jua yang ku belajar lah dari kehidupan di negeri orang ani. macam macam dugaan jua. bukan nya sanang ah hidup seorang ani. esehmen. macam banar jua ku becerita ani ah. hahaha. tapi banar lah. macam macam perkara yang selama ani tani take for granted saja. seperti mencuci pinggan selepas makan, mencuci baju apa.. bukan inda ngaleh. ngaleh. mesti ada disiplin dalam diri dalam hal cemani ani. mun inda di cuci pinggan atu hari ani, isuk sama jua mesti di cuci. inda dapat di tinggal kan, mun inda nada be pinggan.

macam atu jua kalau mencuci baju.. our washing machine lagi rusak, masa ani kan masuk 4 bulan sudah.. nasib baik dapat ikut menyasah arah dorang..

kalau time sama money management pun sama jua. sandiii. sandi banarr tah. haiyaa.. ini lah rasanya kehidupan~ hahahaha

BEWARE OF ANTISPYWARE SOFT!

yes, its a virus. gila baie ni virusnya ah. you never know when the virus installed itself into your computer. the next thing you know, these pop ups appear over and over again. it makes you feel like you have no other choice but to buy and install the software recommended. i almost did. twice! nasib baik it only accepts credit card payment. (not visa debit card payment)

therefore my payment was not successful. when hope seems to fade away, then i randomly googled for 'antispyware soft'.

The results cheered me up a bit.

it states that ANTISPYWARE SOFT itself is a virus. its a scam. it shows you fake virus detection and stuffs. sekali inda lama lapas atu i clicked on this website which shows how to remove the spyware.

i followed the steps and there.im done! virus removed and my laptop is back to normal. Syukur Alhamdulillah.

ani kan inda lagi lama kan periksa. mudahan sajaaa inda papa laptop ku ani. membari ingau ati banar. haha.

just wanna share it with y'all since the virus is a very recent one. (Apr 2010)

we had such a good time back in Rome last month. semuanya siuk yo, dari day one. banar. hahaha. oh well, apart from missing the flight atu lah. lol. macam inda pecaya bah. cemani ceritanya..

kami bertulak dari london lapas zuhur ,then tarus ke stansed airport. sekali macam biasa lah kan di sana, security check apa, then be-Q arah boarding gate apa.. sekali, time kan masuk gate atu kana tahan tia, nya urang putih atu

"where is your visa stamp? i couldn't let you go in there with out visa stamp"

"sorry sir, without a visa stamp you cant go into the plane. this is what you can do, just go to the front counter, and get your visa stamp done and we'll wait for you here"

"bah, awu. tunggu sekajap ah. jangan ku di tinggalkan"

so me, haikal, fadz, and ka piqah ran back to the front counter to get our visa stamp done. bukan inda jauh counter nya atu. ampir main entrance. jauh hantap lah pokoknya , it took us 10 mins running and getting the stamp. sekali, sudah atu, kami ani kan masuk kan. konon nya kan skip queue pasal kami gagas. sekali ada tia security guard ani, katanya :

" no sir, you have to go through security one more time, its the protocol"

" ehh... payah ni. aku gagas kali ni ahhh.. bah, lalu sikit gagas ku nii"

"okay, you're under arrest for refusing to go through the security check"

pokoknya kami inda sampat naik plane lah that day pasal inda sampat masuk plane, therefore we had to buy another ticket which costs us 1xx.
tepaksa tah ku inda membayar rent ni bulan ani x_x

finally sampai tah kami di rome, iatah tampat yang mesti di aga niii nahhh. fountain de trevi. inda pulang ku tau ah sejarah tampat ani. hehehehehe. tapi lawa usulnya.

the next day ada kami berkenalan sama dua superstar Italy. dorang masa atu membuat rakaman di tampat ampir ampir atu lah. ampit jua kami begambar sama durang, ganya inda sampat minta autograph saja.. ala.. sayang eh. hahaha. inda apa lah.. begambar pun cukup lah. hehehe

Anyways, on the very last day atu, kami hang out di Spagna saja for the day and we met this couple getting married ampir ampir kawasan atu lah. sweet usulnya durang atu. ada security guard lagi apa tu.

kisah pengembaraan di Rome tamat pada hari ini. terima kasih kerana membaca post ini, or sekadar melihat pun saya sudah gembira. hehehe

he panicked. he dont know what to do. and then he got an idea.

lets cook rice! he was so happy that he jumped out of his bed and runs to the kitchen. he opened the rice sack. he was shocked to find out that the rice is all gone.

Then he started to think. "who would be so evil to finish up all those rice? "

hmm... it must be Ali...

Ahmad was upset that he could not eat. because there's no rice. he went back to his room and switched on his laptop. sitting in front of the laptop, he got bored.

so he went back to the kitchen to see if there's anything to eat.

the table was empty. theres no food there. Ahmad became even more hungry. then he smell something. he smell food. he smell chicken!

the smell came from an empty container near the sink. next to the container, he saw a plate. half filled with rice.

Suddenly Ahmad got very angry.

:SIAPA LAGI MEMBAZIR NASI ANIII??? MUN INDA MAU MAKAN JANGAN DI MASAK!

Ahmad said to his self "who could be so evil to leave those rice uneaten.. must be Ali.. "

tukang jual : sorry boss, ini murah sudah bah.sangat rugi. kalau hari ini saya kasi kamu discount , esok esok saya boleh bankrupt.

me : bah. inda ku jadi membali eh! (eksen eksen keluar dari kadai)

juru jual itu terdiam... lalu berkata

tukang jual : bah bah. ok lah ok lahh boss. poster yang mana boss mau beli?

good ol' times

atas permintaan Azmi yang berada di kampung Madewa. blog ini di update untuk memberi tahu tentang latest activity yang berlaku di sini. hehehehe.

pada hujung minggu ini, saya dan gbos telah pergi ke keele untuk melawat Vocalist Midnight-screw ups, lei. perjalan ke sana mengambil masa selama 2 jam, dari nottingham ke keele. bagi gbos pula, dalam 5jam lah kali.. jauh wah yo. banyak unexpected train changes lagi.. iatah..

and so setibanya saya di Stoke on-trent station di keele saya telah di sambut oleh lei dan kakak nya yang bernama syazana, atau nama glamour beliau adeq.
kami pun pergi setelah sampai nya gbos beberapa jam kemudian.

lapas atu, turun tah kami mencari taxi di sana. lambai punya lambai punya lambai, inda jua ada taxi taxi nya ani datang, MEMBARI KAN MARAH BAH! sekali si lei pun hilang kesabaran nya, ia beteriak macam tarzan.

"Aaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~"

diam semua orang, semua orang beliatan si lei ni time atu.. gila yo, membari ijap wah tu macam orang kan mengantam saja. membari ingau ati! kami senyum saja, nya si gbos " relax yo, kami memanggil taxi"

sekali kedangaran tia ku bunyi dari jauh, macam bunyi basikal tua,
"ngeekngokngekngokngekngok"

"eh, bunyi apa lagi ni.bida jua bunyi nya" - adeq
"eh deq, jangan di tagur, tangah malam jua ni, karang ada barang atu datang karang.. baik jangan di tagur" - lei
aku diam saja,time atu pasal nampak ku sudah ada this white figure kira kira 100 meter dari tampat kami bediri menunggu taxi atu.

setelah beberapa minute, the white figure pun berhenti di dapan kami. kami terkajut lah, tekajut baruk nya orang brunai..

sudah di liat banar banar, miani lah usulnya kenderaan atu. sebuah beca berwarna putih.

ADA LOGO MERCEDES LAGI TU!!!

suddenly ada tia kedangaran suara seseorang becakap
"EH! Faiz! dari mana ko? bah mari tah naik taxi ku ani, aku belanja kamu makan sekajap"

laaa, rupanya si azmi rupanya ni yang memakai beca mercedes putih ahh..

cuba kamu liat dalam gambar ani, mana satu si azmi? hehehehehe jangan get confused ah :P

kami pun makan di TTblues. nyaman yo makanan nya, aku makan yinyang black pepper noodles. si lei makan nasi sama kicap. gbos makan butter milk chicken dan adeq pula makan fish and chips.

"mi kau kenapa inda makan mi? "
"karang ku makan yo, ani menunggu dorang si bulah, saufi sama mamud kan sampai dulu"

inda lama atu ada ku nampak si bulah lumpat lumpat di luar ttblues, beteriak teriak

"kenapa kau bul eh? "
"eh yo! ada snow yo! nii snoww ! snowwww!! yeayyyyy!!!

"cemani niiiii, main snow inda bawa bawa akuuuuu" - si ami menyamal. hehehehe

inda lama lapas atu mamud and saufi datang memakai perahu

"this is embarrasing! you guys are so childish!" - saufi

makan..

"bah, makan tah yo, apa lagii kamu tunggu ani kan? malu malu kucing tia pulangg"-gbos
"awu eh, bah silakan tahhh, jangan malu malu, aku belanja ni yo!" - lei
"mana cukup ni makanan ku aniii! karang ku mengambil lagi eh, bulih kah lei? bulih ku ambil banyak banyak kah karang ? buffet jua ni kan?"

lapas makan, balik...

"mmm.... lei, kau ikut siapa balik? "
"cemani niii.. bah jangan tah ku di antar nah, biar tia ku jalan kaki"

lei pun bejalan kaki ke rumah nya. tidak lama kemudian, lei pengsan di tengah jalan pasal ia telampau kanyang. hahaha.

moral of the story : i miss you guys.

hehehehe. aku rindu kamu jua :(

ah, iatah nyangku! sudah berhari hari ku remind myself to siapkan essay ani. indaaaaaa jua mau siap siap nya. adakalanya, baru jua kan membuka buku ah. menguap tia tarus, then baru jua kan menulis beberapa ayat, tertidor tia. miana kan tu? adakah ini dugaan? hmmm.. maybe ani signs kali. inda payah tah di buat kaliah course work ani mun asal kan membuat tidur ganya ani.... hahaha. inda apa lah, malam ani, mesti siap ni! malam ani semuanya mesti siap! i mean my essay. yang lain, esok lah buat... or lusa. heheheheh.

pada suatu hari, aku atu baruuuu jua bersemangat kan membuat essay, tiba tiba tergarak tia hati ku atu kan menyanyi sambil main guitar...
so... apa lagi... hahahaha
